I was born in January of 1984 in Pocatello, Idaho, to a family that was no stranger to fly fishing; however, my major fly fishing influence came from my uncle. I began fishing as soon as I could hold a fishing rod, and at about the age of ten I decided to give fly fishing a try. After the first time, I was hooked (pardon the pun). Learning as I went, the slow processes of gaining skill in this sport began. My experience includes many summers of fishing the Henry’s Fork in Idaho, the Madison in Montana, and the surrounding waters.

I learned to fish on Harriman (Rail Road) Ranch of the Henry’s Fork, so I am used to fishing for trout that are reputed to have Ph.D.s in fooling fisherman. I have also spent a fair share of my time fishing the still waters of Island Park and south eastern Idaho, and have also spent time in Alaska fishing for salmon, trout, and grayling.

At about the age of eleven I began to tie my own flies; and yes, my uncle also mentored me in this completely separate, but related, art. It wasn’t until about the year 2000 that my skill in fly tying really began to blossom. Soon after, I was invited to do tying demonstrations at my local fly shop; which is where I currently work. I have also done demonstrations at the South Eastern Idaho Fly Fishing and Tying Expo for two consecutive years and was invited in the second annual Montana Fly Tying Expo. On top of that I also teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced fly tying and fly casting lessons at All Seasons Angler in Pocatello, Idaho.
Ever since I turned 15 I have had a job, and that job has always been in a fly shop. My first job was working in Mike Lawson’s Henrys Fork Anglers fly shop in Last Chance, Idaho. After two years of working there I got a job closer to where I would be going to college. That job was at All Seasons Angler in Pocatello, Idaho and I continue work there.

I have developed several patterns that work well on the Henry’s Fork, Madison, and South Fork of the Snake. One can currently buy my flies at All Seasons Angler in Pocatello or through this web site. If I had one philosophy on fly tying it would be, "you have to catch the fisherman, before you can catch the fish." I don’t believe in selling or giving away a fly I would not fish with myself. If I tie a horrible fly, it is recycled and that is my promise.
Nick is a committed catch-and-release, barbless hook, fisherman and urges all others to practice the same.
